K-9 Division

Law enforcement agencies all over the United States have long recognized the value of properly trained police service dogs. The police K-9, due to its strength, agility, courage, and other amazing capabilities, can be utilized to assist law enforcement in various tasks more thoroughly and efficiently.

Harris County Precinct 2 K-9’s have been trained and are certified yearly to detect the presence of the odor of marijuana, methamphetamine, heroin, MDMA (ecstasy), and cocaine. The ability of the police K-9’s to locate concealed narcotics contraband is unmatched.

Harris County Precinct 2 currently has two police K-9’s. Zeus, a Belgian Malinois is currently assigned to the Galena Park Independent School District and works daily on keeping away narcotics from our school campuses. Hero, is a German Shepard who is a dual-purpose K-9. Hero is certified in narcotics detection and will complete his patrol certification later this year. Hero is currently assigned to our Special Operations Division but also assists the Patrol Division when called upon.
